"Left a good job in the city
working for the man every night and day!
And I never lost one minute of sleeping
thinkin' bout the way things might have been!"
... I'm sorry, thinking about the city gave me the sudden urge to sing "Proud Mary".

Yesterday, my husband and I returned home from a great trip to Washington DC along with some of our church family! There were
so many things to see! We were there for three and a half days and barely scratched the surface of the attractions; a week would be more sufficient time for a place like DC. We visited the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Moument, National Air and Space Museum, National World History Museum, National American History Museum, Holocaust Museum, Pentagon City Mall, Georgia Brown Restaurant, Phillip's Flagship Restaurant, and two or three street vendors. We also had a glance at the White House and Capitol Hill. Ted made a great tour guide as he whisped us to and fro through the crazy traffic and busy sidewalks of the city. I was even fortunate enough to get to meet up with two of my IMPACT friends from school who live in the area! An extra treat for us all :).

We seemed to only get about 4 hours of sleep a night, and we probably walked about six miles a day. I don't believe I've ever done that much walking over a span of 3 days before... There were times when I was so achy and tired that I didn't know if I could go on. It was my own fault I didn't bring any shoes with arch support... My husband, on the other hand, is flat foot so he was fine. I told my husband to just leave me and let me die, save himself... but he cheered me on with the promise of food and urged me along with a "Yes we can". I now feel like I have the calf muscles of a young man; they'll probably be gone by the end of this week.
We didn't see Obama, by the way, he was out of town... We believe we might have seen him and his entourage drive through when he arrived back because on Saturday certain streets were shut down for a couple of important looking black vehicles to come through. I thought it was pretty exciting [even if actually it wasn't him.]
Here's a peak at our trip!
Hi Tina Turner (little girl),
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed your trip to The Capital. You two certainly got a lot in for three days!(You should know better about flip flops when you have a lot of walking to do.)You made a great slide show and thanks for the pics that you sent me.
